Proverbs is said to be a book of wisdom so it's the perfect place to find guidance and encouragement.
The book has A LOT to say about earning money, being a good steward with it, the impotence and reward for working hard, and more.
We wanted to share 10 of these proverbs with you in hopes of helping you continue to align your business with the Lord's wisdom and continue growing both as a Christ-follower and business owner!
The Lord detests dishonest scales,
but accurate weights find favor with him.
- Proverbs 11:1
Companies and products may come into your life which seem like "easy" money. Make sure that whatever you do, you do it with integrity. It may seem like you're making less money, but the Lord will bless you for doing honest work.
"One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth
and one who gives gifts to the richâboth come to poverty."
- Proverbs 22:16
Don't exploit those without a lot of money. Don't make money-making promises you can't keep. Repeat and honor and be honest with everyone and the Lord will bless your business.
"Do you see someone skilled in their work?
They will serve before kings;
they will not serve before officials of low rank."
- Proverbs 22:29
How do you become a "skilled" worker that will do great things? Commit your business to the Lord every single day and trust that, if He gave you the business, He will also give you success.
"Dishonest money dwindles away,
but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow."
- Proverbs 13:11
So many of us want to make a lot of money RIGHT NOW but the Word tells us that it's better to grow our businesses slow and steady. Probably not what many of us want to hear, but growing this way is much more sustainable.
"All hard work brings a profit,
but mere talk leads only to poverty."
- Proverbs 14:23
You gotta put in the work to make money! We can't just dream about it, talk about it, thank about it, make plans to do it, but never actually do anything. We have to get our hands dirty and do the work to grow our business.
"Diligent hands will rule,
but laziness ends in forced labor."
- Proverbs 12:24
Think of forced labor as having to do work you don't love or enjoy in order to survive. But if we're diligent with the work that we do, and we're doing it for the Lord, He will reward the work that we do!
"The simple believe anything,
but the prudent give thought to their steps."
- Proverbs 14:15
Are you being wise with the decisions you make or impulsive? Are you seeking counsel and guidance from people smarter and more experienced than you or are you jumping around to the "next best thing?" Make sure you're giving your decisions a lot of care and thought and prayer before moving forward.
"Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than the rich whose ways are perverse."
- Proverbs 28:6
Proverbs is full of reminders to work with the right motives and with integrity. So many people gain a lot of money by doing business in a way that doesn't honor the Lord, but we know that God will bless our hands if we follow in His ways.
"The plans of the diligent lead to profit
as surely as haste leads to poverty."
- Proverbs 21:5
The book of Proverbs is so clear that rushing to make money as fast as we can is not the way the Lord wants us to go. He wants to teach us so many lessons along the way as we grow at a steady pace. The world around us wants to go fast, but He wants us to trust His process.
"Many are the plans in a personâs heart,
but it is the Lordâs purpose that prevails."
- Proverbs 19:21
A reminder all of us need all the time: whatever plan the Lord has for us is going to come to fruition. We simply have to trust Him even when it seems the growth is slow, even when it doesn't make sense. He will not forsake us or our business. He's got big plans for you!
We hope you've found these verses from the book of Proverbs to be encouraging! The Lord has such big plans for you and your business! We know it can be hard to trust Him sometimes, but we also know that if you follow this wisdom you'll get to where you want to go!
